Greek photographer

Σε μια πρόσφατη επίσκεψη μου τράβηξα αρκετές φωτογραφίες και σιγά-σιγά θα δημοσιεύω και τις επεξεργασμένες HDR.

Ο μύθος αναφέρει πως ο Ορέστης επιστρέφοντας από την Ταυρική χερσόνησο με την Ιφιγένεια και το θαυματουργό ξόανο της Αρτέμιδος, αποβιβάστηκε στις Αραφηνίδες Αλές, όπου ίδρυσε ναό για την Αρτέμιδα και έστησε άγαλμα. Τα θεμέλια του ναού διατηρούνται σήμερα σε ελεγχόμενο χώρο στην κεντρική παραλία του Δήμου, όπως επίσης και ο βωμός της θεάς σε κοντινή απόσταση επάνω στην ακτή. Στο ναό λατρευόταν η Άρτεμις ως «ταυροπόλος» θεά, ενώ η Ιφιγένεια αποσύρθηκε στο Ιερό της Αρτέμιδος στη Βραυρώνα, το οποίο σώζεται έως σήμερα, δίπλα από το Αρχαιολογικό Μουσείο Βραυρώνος.

Artemis worshipers were found all over the ancient Greek world. One of the most famous worshiping sites for Artemis was in Attica at Brauron. Artemis is said to have presided over all the biological transitions of females from before puberty to the first childbirth. “Young girls began to prepare for the event of the first childbirth at an early age. Even before menarche young girls danced for Artemis, in some places playing the role of animals. At the Attic site, or Brauron, in the rite called arkteia, girls representing the polis of Athens imitated she-bears, arktoi." [1] “The initiation ritual for girls was called the Brauronia, after the location of Artemis' shrine at Brauron, in Attica, where the ritual, performed by girls before they reached puberty, took place.”[2] Brauron is the site where Iphigenia, Agamemnon’s daughter, is said to have established a temple to Artemis by decree of Athena, as told in Euripides’ Iphigeneia at Aults.

Να τη βρίσκει κανείς, περιδιαβαίνοντας τους δρόμους της Αθήνας. Να συγχωρήσετε την ποιότητα της φωτογραφίας, ήταν βράδι όταν την είδα και τη φωτογράφησα.

Ο Γιόζεφ Κουντέλκα δεν είναι ένας κοινός φωτογράφος. Υπερβαίνει την πραγματικότητα που απαθανατίζει: χαρακτηριστικό παράδειγμα η εισβολή των Ρώσων στην πατρίδα του, την Τσεχοσλοβακία, το 1968. Οι φωτογραφίες του παρουσιάζουν την πραγματικότητα με έναν πρωτόγνωρο ρομαντισμό.

Από την Τετάρτη 17 Σεπτεμβρίου και για δύο μήνες το ελληνικό κοινό θα έχει την ευκαιρία να γνωρίσει το έργο του Κουντέλκα, σε μια αναδρομική έκθεση που φιλοξενεί το Μουσείο Μπενάκη στο κτίριο της οδού Πειραιώς.

Η έκθεση εντάσσεται στις εκδηλώσεις για τη γαλλική προεδρία της Ευρωπαϊκής Ένωσης.

It was a chance discovery, that I am much grateful for. A truly amazing artist who uses multiple photographs and does some very creative stuff with Photoshop. The end result is something between a photograph and a painting; pictorialism is definitely a great influence. In her own words:

My images start and end as photographs. Each image is composed of many photographs, combined to create a picture that is no documentary recording, but a frame in a story, a snapshot of an image lit by imagination, by memory, by thought. I am using modern techniques (computer processing) to achieve these results, some of which are similar to darkroom processes, others – with cutting and pasting for collating, and others – with painting and drawing. Each image is sketched, researched and planed in detail before shooting. The postprocessing is a long phase that takes much skill, determination and energy. Each image may take anything from several weeks to months from concept to final details.
